Frequently Asked
Legal Questions
Do I
have a case?
Like much in life, answers to legal questions rarely are certain. However,
we will listen to the facts of your case and what you hope to achieve and
give you our opinion of what we think may happen. Keep in mind, this can
change, and frequently does, as cases and the law develop and more facts are
discovered.
How much will this cost me?
If you were injured and have a personal injury or workers compensation
case, you do not have to pay an attorneys fee until and if your case is
settled or we obtain a verdict from a jury if the case is tried. However,
certain expenses may have to be advanced, depending on the case. In
municipal court cases (such as traffic tickets), we usually charge a
one-time flat fee that is less than $1,000. In other types of litigation,
we usually charge clients by the hour with a small retainer up front,
depending on the case. We will try to give you an estimate of the total
cost up front.
How long will it take?
Each case is different. Litigation (whether personal injury,
contract, discrimination or other) can take anywhere from a few months to
a few years depending on whether a settlement can be reached early in the
case or later on or if it has to go to trial. Workers Compensation cases
usually are resolved within a year. Municipal court matters are usually
resolved within a month or two.
Do I meet with clients evenings or weekends?
Yes, we meet clients in the early evening or Saturday morning if necessary
because of the client's work schedule or personal situation.
